Bihar Mahostav began in Delhi (26-APR-2014)

The Bihar Mahotsav began in Delhi on 26 April 2014. It started amid strains of thumri, colourful folk performances and aroma of traditional cuisine. The festival will be celebrated for three days from 26 to 28 April 2014.

The festival was jointly organized by the Department of Art, Culture and Youth, Government of Bihar, Sangeet Natak Akademi and Bihar Lalit Kala Akademi.

In Rabindra Bhawan, a giant cut-out of world-famous Yakshi statue, sights of Madhubani paintings, Sikki art and photographs of the famous monuments of state like Gol Ghar and tomb of Maner Sherif are the special attraction to the festival.

The traditional cuisine like chuda-dahi, sattu drink, the famous litti-choka and also stalls for handicraft and paintings of Bihar were arranged. The performance of Benares gharana and Gaya gharana are main attraction of the festival.

Books on Bihar history and its heritage, especially the lost art of Patna Qalam among others are also on sale.  An exhibition of works of artists from Bihar will be held.

The Bihar Mahotsav was started in 2009 in Kolkata, followed by Allahabad, Jaipur and in Guwahati in earlier years.
